Solidago riddellii - Riddell's Goldenrod

Asteraceae Family - "Riddell's Goldenrod" Solidago comes from the Latin word solido meaning "to strengthen; to make solid". Riddellii is in honor of the discoverer of this plant. Found on wet to mesic prairies and drainage areas throughout all but the most western portion of the Tallgrass region. A very showy goldenrod to 3 feet tall with smooth stems and leaves. Leaves are slightly shiny and slightly folded lengthwise tending to curve away from the stem. Yellow flowers in dense, rounded clusters at the top of the stem with 7 to 9 ray flowers per head. Blooms from Mid-july through September. No medicinal or food uses reported. |
