Solidago ohiensis - Ohio Goldenrod

Asteraceae Family - "Ohio Goldenrod"

Solidago comes from the Latin word solido meaning "to strengthen; to make solid". Ohiensis is the Latin word meaning "of Ohio".

Somewhat similar to S. graminifolia with it's flat top and slenderleaves, but the basal leaves of this plant are smaller and feather-veined. Leaves are also more erect on the stem. Yellow-orange to yellow ray flowers (6 - 8) at the top of the stem bloom from August through September; plant is generally 2 - 3 feet tall. Found in bogs, moist prairies and on sandy beaches in the northern portions of the Tallgrass region.
