Rumex orbiculatis - Water Dock
Polygonaceae Family - "Water Dock" Rumex is the Latin name for another similar species. Orbiculatus is the Latin word meaning "round; like a wheel". Very large water-lover with long-stalked, leathery leaves that can be 2 feet long. Fruits are large and heart-shaped; flowers green-brown. Grows from 3 to 7 feet in swamps and along shores. Found in the northern portions of the Tallgrass region and flowers from June to September. Although some members of this genus were used medicinally, there is no reference for R. orbiculatis. |
